(Last Updated: April 24, 2019)
1. Garrett Bradbury, rSR, NC State
Garrett Bradbury checks every box for teams. He has good enough size for the position at 6’3" 306 pounds, has experience playing at another position (right guard), has exceptional core strength, elite athleticism and body control, and has a high football IQ. The check boxes translated to the football field as well, as he was an All-American this past year. If he gets beat he has the quickness to recover, but it’s unlikely due to his quick first step and ability to land the first punch. Bradbury is without a doubt the best center in the class.
2018 Stats
13 games, 3 years as starter at C/RG, All-America 1st Team, All-ACC 1st Team
2. Erik McCoy, rJR, Texas A&M
Erik McCoy is a great athlete with enough size to play center or guard in the NFL. While he didn’t get all-conference recognition throughout his career, he certainly deserved it after a great senior season. In 12 games started, he never allowed a sack, and was rarely penalized. McCoy is one of the best pass blockers in the class, and is reliable in the run game. While he doesn’t always open big holes, he’s barely beaten in run blocking. His 4.89 speed was elite at 303 pounds, and he has plenty of experience against great players from his 3 years of starting in the SEC.
2018 Stats
12 games, 3 years as starter at C, no conference recognition
3. Elgton Jenkins, SR, Mississippi State
Elgton Jenkins started the season as the #1 center, but has fallen slightly after he failed to improve from last year. Jenkins has only average athleticism, but makes up for it with a quick first step and above average size for the position. While he has played only center the last 2 years, he also has experience at guard and even left tackle. This versatility should help him increase his value as a backup center. Jenkins has a high football IQ and reads linebackers well which will be appreciated by NFL QBs.
2018 Stats
13 games, 3 years as starter at C/LT/G, All-SEC HM
4. Michael Jordan, JR, Ohio State
Michael Jordan immediate was the first freshman offensive lineman to start for the Buckeyes since Orlando Pace in 1994. Understandably, he had a lot of hype because of this and his 6’6" 312 pound frame. Despite his height, he has quick hips and bends well. Jordan has several issues, as he struggles getting low enough to open holes in the run game, and allowed more QB hurries than any other big name center. He ran slower than expected and doesn’t have great upper body strength. Still, his versatility, pedigree, and size should help him maintain an NFL career.
2018 Stats
13 games, 3 years as starter at C/RG, All-America 3rd Team, All-Big10 2nd Team
5. Ross Pierschbacher, SR, Alabama
On a team full of top-tier athletes, Ross Pierschbacher is probably the biggest exception. He lacks elite quickness and doesn’t have great power to open holes in the running game. Pierschbacher also doesn’t have special size. Still, he is a 4 year starter for a perennial powerhouse. While he doesn’t excel in any one area, he is very reliable and consistent in his play. Football IQ is also a positive.
2018 Stats
14 games, 4 years as starter at C/LG, All-America 3rd Team, All-SEC 1st Team

Overall Opinion of the Centers
I was pretty high on the centers a couple months ago, but my enthusiasm has lowered since the combine. While Garrett Bradbury looks like a day-1 starter, no one else stood out to me. Top players like Michael Jordan and Ross Pierschbacher hurt their stock, while pro days also showed a lack of athleticism at the position. While there will always be good depth at this position, the overall opinion of the class will depend on which players transition to playing center at the next level. I expect a surprise player or two to emerge that I didn’t find, as this position requires less athleticism and size than the other positions of the o-line.
