BNB Football is led by draft analyst Brady Balhorn. We follow players during their collegiate careers, throughout workouts, and then follow their NFL progression. Since 2014, we have been keeping track of over 2,000 players in each draft. We go in depth with the goal of having scouted every player who gets a camp invite from an NFL team. This is a feat that no other analyst could truthfully claim.

BNB’s player rankings are thorough and accurate. We study film, analyze statistics, keep track of player injuries and off-field concerns, and keep track of many other factors when forming our rankings.

NFL DRAFT SCOUTING PROCESS

HOW WE MAKE OUR RANKINGS

BNB Football uses a complete NFL draft scouting process in an attempt to come up with the most accurate rankings possible. Constructing rankings is a difficult process that requires a number of steps. While the scouting process will vary slightly from player to player, these are the general steps that will be taken. Every year thousands of draft-eligible players will be evaluated, even though there will only be 256 drafted. BNB Football strives to be the most accurate and complete rankings available.

Film Study

The tried and true way of scouting, film study can be as easy as watching a team and taking notes of who succeeded or failed on any given plays. After watching a team several times, the best players will usually stand out. In the early stages, this is a great way to see who stands out and who makes place. Later in the process, film study is the only way to see if someone has proper technique or instincts to play at the next level.

Statistical Analysis

Stats aren’t everything, but they certainly do tell a story. Each year, we keep a spreadsheet with detailed statistics and measurables of over 2,000 players. While there are many factors that can affect stats other than player ability, extended statistical analysis throughout the years has helped us to spot these trends, and better account for them in the future. We are now pros at identifying what is considered “NFL Caliber Stats” for each conference’s level of competition, as well as accounting for each team’s style of play.

Trend Analysis

Trend analysis mainly has to do with styles of play and management in the NFL. These factors influence which players will be in the highest demand. Not only does this have a strong influence on our mock drafts, but it also allows us to predict if a player’s success will be able to translate to the professional level. For example, the most successful running backs entering the NFL today are guys who can pass block and catch the ball. Five years ago, a talented running back who was bad in the pass game would still get a shot in the NFL. Today, versatility is needed if you want to make it. Trend analysis such as this can’t be overlooked.

Expert Opinions

We’re not afraid to admit that we value the opinions of other experts. There are a lot of great draft resources on the internet, and browsing other sites helps us see who we’re missing or who we might want to reevaluate. This process helps to collect a preliminary list of prospects early on, and helps us fill in the gaps later in the process.

Accolades/Testimonials

We greatly value the opinions of coaches. Looking at all-conference teams and similar accolades helps us to identify who has gained the respect of the coaches in their conference. While this seems very simple, it is extremely effective for preliminary research. We could watch hours of film on a particular prospect, but we still wouldn’t come close to matching the experience of a coach who game-planned against him.
