Junior Bergen NFL Draft Profile Overview
Junior Bergen grew up in Billings, Montana, where his athleticism and football instincts quickly set him apart from a young age.
A standout talent at Billings Senior High School, Bergen played quarterback and wide receiver, earning statewide recognition for his versatility, explosiveness, and leadership on the field.
He was widely regarded as the top high school recruit in Montana, showcasing a dynamic skill set that made him a threat to score any time he touched the ball.
Montana isn’t a recruiting hot bed however, so he only received offers from Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, and Air Force.
Originally committed to play at the University of Montana as a quarterback, Bergen’s path shifted when he transitioned to wide receiver early in his collegiate career.
His agility, vision, and elusiveness made him a threat in open space, and the Grizzlies wasted no time finding creative ways to get the ball in his hands. Over the course of his college career, Bergen evolved into a do-it-all weapon. He primarily lined up in the slot on offense, but was used heavily as a ball carrier and of course as a special teams threat.
As a receiver, Bergen has potential as a slot receiver and gadget weapon who has exceptional underneath quickness and vision as a ball carrier.
Early in his career most of his touches were actually as a ball carrier, as he recorded 493 rushing yards as a true freshman.
His hands have always been reliable, and he has solid body control to make touch catches in the air or along the sidelines when needed.
Bergen has little experience as an outside receiver, with 90% of his snaps the past 3 seasons coming out of the slot. He lacks the imposing frame or freakish top end speed that you’d expect out of most draftable wide receivers.
His experience as a quarterback has helped him understand defensive schemes, but also has led to him being the centerpiece of a ton of trick plays. Bergen has attempted 7 passes in his college career, totaling 77 passing yards and a touchdown through the air.
Where Bergen really excels is as a punt returner. The 3 time All-American return man has totaled 8 punt return touchdowns, along with a ridiculous 16.7 average punt return. He also added a kickoff return touchdown in 2023.
As a punt returner, Bergen plays will absolutely elite vision. He puts on a clinic of how to play the position, and his acceleration and ability to change direction helps him avoid defenders altogether.
Junior Bergen College Stats
