2020 NFL Draft WR Rankings

1. CeeDee Lamb, JR, Oklahoma

CeeDee Lamb NFL Draft

CeeDee Lamb is a shifty wide receiver who has elite route running ability that will directly translate to the NFL. While he doesn’t have great top end speed, he’s still plenty fast and was unguardable in college. He catches the ball naturally, puts on a route running clinic, and will have no problems gaining separation at the NFL level. He also knows how to use his body like a tight end, and is great at contested catches. The biggest question will be how he escapes from strong press corners, but there’s only a couple of players with enough skill to even slow him down.

2019 Stats

13 games: 1327 yards, 14 touchdowns, 21.4 yards per catch, 20 yards rushing.

2. Jerry Jeudy, JR, Alabama

Jerry Jeudy NFL Draft

Jerry Jeudy is a premier wide receiver with the route running ability to become a WR1 his first day in the league. He combines his fluid, shifty routes with easy speed to keep defenders on their toes. In limited opportunities he’s played great against press coverage, and demands safety help over the top if you don’t give him cushion. After being mostly a deep threat in 2018, he expanded his repertoire this past year to include a variety of routes, and he works back towards the football well. Jeudy gives you everything you need in a WR1 with very few weaknesses.

2019 Stats

13 games: 1163 yards, 10 touchdowns, 15.1 yards per catch

3. Henry Ruggs III, JR, Alabama

Henry Ruggs III NFL Draft

Henry Ruggs plays FAST, and fans will love him as a prospect for his 4.27 40 yard dash. As we’ve learned, speed isn’t the most important factor as a receiver. Still, Ruggs is a lot more than just fast. He is also powerful and shifty with big hands that helped him rarely ever drop passes at Alabama. Like the two receivers above him, Ruggs is a solid route runner who looks natural releasing from the line and making the catch. He still needs to prove he can deal with physicality, but press corners will require safety help because of his elite speed. His combination of hands, speed, and route running will be very enticing and gives him All-Pro potential.

2019 Stats

12 games: 746 yards, 7 touchdowns, 18.7 yards per catch, 75 yards rushing (1 rushing TD)

4. Justin Jefferson, SR, LSU

Justin Jefferson NFL Draft

Justin Jefferson moved to the slot in 2019 and looked like a completely different receiver. He has a lot of flashes early in his career at LSU, but it all came together alongside Joe Burrow. Despite being overshadowed a bit by Ja’Marr Chase, Jefferson was dominant on mid and underneath routes, and is advanced of a route runner as you’ll find. He has excellent body control and attacks back towards the ball, while also being dangerous after the catch. His athleticism shocked people at the combine, and suggested that his move to the slot wasn’t the only reason he improved this past year.

2019 Stats

15 games: 1540 yards, 18 touchdowns, 13.9 yards per reception

5. Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson

Tee Higgins NFL Draft

Tee Higgins has great size for the position at 6’4" 215 pounds, and combines it with long arms and above average speed. While he doesn’t have the same diverse route tree of the other top receivers, he is still a decent route runner who has enough speed and quickness to get separation from NFL corners. He excels when the ball is in the air, controlling his body through jumps and high-pointing the ball. Higgins has a great feel for the position and was incredibly productive throughout his career. He can still get better at using his body to his advantage and releasing from the press.

2019 Stats

15 games: 1167 yards, 13 touchdowns, 19.8 yards per catch, 36 rushing yards (1 rushing TD)

Overall Opinion of the WRs

It isn’t an exaggeration to say this is the best WR draft class of all time. This is long overdue. Since the great receiver class of 2014 that featured Mike Evans, OBJ, Sammy Watkins, Brandin Cooks, Davante Adams, and others, we haven’t had a particularly strong class. This year changes that with top-tier production, athleticism, and size. It’s easy to see that there are a lot of receivers with the coveted size and speed combination. What’s not as easy to see is that this group contains a lot of exceptional route runners (the most important skill a receiver can have). Jeudy and Lamb are top class receivers, while guys like Ruggs, Reagor, Claypool, Mims, and Higgins have the size or speed that can’t be taught. While the first round talent may only be “above average," what really makes this class special is how many guys have a 3rd round grade. More than 20 of these receivers are good enough to go Day 1 or 2 (first 3 rounds) in the average draft. This means you will likely be able to take a 3rd-round receiver in the late 5th round. I thoroughly expect at least a dozen of these receivers to turn into high quality starters, which is rare to say. It is definitely the strongest position group in the 2020 draft, and any team who might need a receiver is in good hands this year.
