Who is the fastest linebacker in the 2022 NFL Draft?

The fastest linebacker in 2022 is Kyron Johnson of Kansas, who ran a 4.40 40 yard dash at his pro day. Johnson is an outside linebacker who can be either an edge rusher or a true linebacker.

Along with the combine data that everyone knows, we’ve also collected data from all pro days in the 2022 cycle.

We now have verified 40 yard dash times from 222 linebackers in the 2022 class, including athletes from every level of college football.

As with every other position, a few notable edge rushers didn’t run a 40 yard dash at either the combine or their pro day. These players will not be considered in this article, most notably Nakobe Dean, Christopher Allen, and Jeremiah Gemmel.

The chart above shows all the linebackers in the 2022 draft class. The most well known linebackers are depicted by their school’s logo, including Troy Andersen, Christian Harris, Channing Tindall, Quay Walker, Brandon Smith, Malcolm Rodriguez, Leo Chenal, D’Marco Jackson, Brian Asamoah, Damone Clark, Terrel Bernard, JoJo Domann, Chad Muma, Devin Lloyd, Aaron Hansford, Darrian Beavers, Mike Rose, and Jack Sanborn.

The further to the top left, the better. As is indicated by the green and red shading. Troy Andersen, Brandon Smith, and Leo Chenal especially stand out in the top left corner.

The top LB prospects are so freakishly athletic that it inverted trend line. You’d expect that as weight goes up, 40 times gets slower. That’s generally the case, but with so many low level prospects who are both small and slow, the trend line is negative. That shows how special the athletic abilities of this class are.

Every red dot is a prospect other than the traditional top prospects.
