Jordan Burch Draft Profile Overview
Jordan Burch was a highly coveted 5 star recruit out of Columbia, South Carolina. He had offers from just about every school in the nation, including Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Clemson, and others. Ultimately, he decided to stay at home and commit to South Carolina. After 3 seasons, Burch transferred to Oregon. He still has his extra year of eligibility remaining, and could opt to pass on the 2024 draft.
After a slow first two years in 2020 and 2021, Burch showed flashes of what he could become as a true junior in 2022. His 7.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks didn’t stand out, but his 60 total tackles did. Burch saw an improvement in his pass rush win rate, strength to hold up against the run, and started playing with a better motor to work towards the edges. Now that he’s transferred to Oregon, Burch will have the opportunity to play for a more complete team with legitimate conference title aspirations.
Jordan Burch had the attention of NFL Draft Analysts ever since his first day at South Carolina, having been their highest-graded recruit since Jadeveon Clowney who became the #1 overall pick. Right away as a freshman, the former 5-star recruit looked the part of a future NFL player despite up-and-down performances on the field.
Edge rusher is a position that requires an abundance of uncoachable traits, and Burch has them. Measuring 6’6″ 285 pounds with good length and a well-proportioned frame, Burch looks the part of a strong-side defensive end. He isn’t as bendy as some of the top-tier pass rushers, but he has impressive straight line speed, strong hands, decent play strength, and changes directions well.
Burch has had occasional opportunities to show his straight line athleticism on film, and always impresses. He’s checked in at tight end and even ran go routes at his advanced size, while also showing his speed on an interception return and chase down opportunities.
Burch struggled early in his career with tackling consistency and pass rush moves, but has shown improvement in both areas. He still doesn’t hit as hard as you would expect for someone of his size, and even his highlight film will show him having to wrestle to bring players down. If he’s able to really unlock his strength for more than just anchoring against the run, watch out.
