Xavier Weaver Draft Profile Overview

Xavier Weaver was a 3 star recruit out of Orlando, Florida. After spending his first four seasons at South Florida, Weaver transferred to Colorado for his final season of eligibility.

After two seasons with limited playing time from 2019-2020, Weaver broke out in 2021. Despite a passing game that generated less than 2200 total yards, Weaver recorded a team-leading 715 receiving yards while averaging 17.4 yards per reception. This success was duplicated in 2022 with similar production, while his advanced metrics showed a significant improvement in separating ability.

Weaver first put himself on my draft radar in 2021, and he’s been on my “most underrated prospects” list ever since. Now that he’s transferred to Colorado, Weaver is off to a hot start. He’s recorded over 100 receiving yards in each of his first 2 games, and been one of the most impressive receivers in college football.

Weaver has decent length with a narrow frame, listed at 6’1″ 180 pounds. He’s got decent speed and quickness, but is especially fluid in the open field with good flexibility. His best attribute is his ability to consistently win on his routes. Weaver is a fairly deceptive route runner who accelerates into his cuts and is effective at changing speeds.

His hands are good, and his highlight film is full of difficult high pointing grabs. He’ll need to show he can consistently make the right play instead of making things more difficult with a highlight attempt. Frame is also still a slight concern for the Colorado WR. Despite putting on some healthy weight, he’s still lean and is susceptible to being jammed at the line of scrimmage.
